Corruption isn't a new song

So I know it seems like corruption in society is this brand new thibng, but that just isn't the case.  Corruption may be more sensationalized today by the media vultures competing for ratings, but as it turns out corruption in the american society goes back not months, not years, not even decades but almost a century!  So everyone knows who president Theodore Rossevelt is right?  Well, if you don't I'd advise looking him up or you're gonna have no idea what I'm talking about.  For those who do, the man was president during a time of the first round of Big Buisness, the Carnagies and the Rockafellers.  These captains of industry tend to act like modern captains of industry, money, money, and more money.  As such, the common employee suffered, and egulations were pretty lax.  The president, like all public spokesmen, wrote a speech about it.  In one part, he says, "There are in the body politic, economic and social, many and grave evils, and there is urgent necessity for the sternest war upon them. There should be relentless exposure of and attack upon every evil man, whether politician or business man, every evil practice, whether in politics, business, or social life."  See? The president of the united states from the 1900's is demanding waron corruption, saying that it is everywhere in society.  Clearly, his words were not heededconsidering the suppossedly massiveamount of corruption today.  However, perhaps things did get better in a legal sense.  Many laws were eventually passed to put a stop to corrupt activities, the problem was that no one bothered to enforce them.  We'll be looking at some more corruption across the decades and then we'll see how bad it is now to how it was back then and we'll see if we're making progress or just slipping farther and farther into the darkness..... oooooooh scary right?
